Is the "Are you experienced" clip available on DVD? It seems to have
been excluded from "Complete Truth". That's assuming it exists :-)

Thanks,
Ian.

The video does indeed exist. However, due to the dickweed lawyers that
work for the Hendrix estate, DEVO was not allowed to include the Are U
Experienced video on 'Complete Truth'. Something about licensing
issues, I think. If you really want to see it, I can e-mail you the
file.

It's not necessarily legal, but director Doug Smith (aka the Right
Reverend Ivan Stang) included the "RUX" video in its entirety on his
old VHS collection "Pre-Dobbs Stang-Films" (along with the animation
segment from "Love Without Anger" which he also did).

I have seen a DVD version of "PDSF" at a local alternative video store,
and I assume that it, too, contains the forbidden DEVO vid, though it
is not listed in the contents - for copyright reasons, no doubt - (also
included is a treasure trove of twisted & devolved short flicks that
are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)

I'll try and rent the thing or get evidence one way or the other
regarding the presence of "RUX" from the video store ASAP, but if you
wanna go in blindly:

It is available over at http://subgenius.com/scatalog/video.htm.

(You could also try to get ahold of Stang personally at alt.slack on
Usenet.)

Ah, thanks. This looks interesting... a little weird perhaps, but
interesting :-)

This sounds great too, but please excuse my ignorance - PDSF?

No rush, please don't go to any trouble.

Thanks!

D'oh! Mentioned earlier in the post and completely overlooked. I better
put on a coffee and crank Devo Live up a bit louder ;-)

Thanks,

Too late - I had the clerk slip the disc in their in-store deck tonight
to scan for RUX... and the dang DVD wouldn't play!

So, this mystery remains unsolved on my end. Sorry, spudes (Spud

If it was on there, a simple examination of the VOBs on a computer
would detect it. It could be extracted easily with DVD Decryptor. I
haven't looked, but I seem to remember someone posting a few months back
that he had gynecologically probed the DVD and found no RUX.

Yo, Frank -

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the DEVO DVD.

I'm NOT so sure that Rev. Skull wasn't talking about the STANG DVD.

So I postulate that you may be probing for spuds in all the wrong
places (as the song goes).

had to be. As many times as Devo's been in lawsuits, I'm sure they'd
rather not risk one from the Hendrix estate.

LOL...I have to laugh...every time I see the word "probe" or any form
of it, all I can think about is anal probes. Like when NASA lauches
outer space probes, I think of how they're going to outer space to
kidnap redneck aliens in their deserted areas and giving them anal
probes in retaliation for all the earthling rednecks who got them from
aliens.

Wow, those were good pot brownies!

BTW, is it just me, or is that video extremely hokey? Definitely an
80's museum piece with the black kids in MJ red suits and Jheri curls,
and Devo goofing on hippies. Their other videos are pretty timeless,
but that one is definitely a product of the 80's.

Hey Alex, get those three black kids in the Jheri curls and MJ suits
and bring them to the next Devo-tional and I guarantee you a sellout.
They're a much bigger draw than the Through Being Cool kids.

But this rasies the bigger question: Is there a "wrong" place to probe
for spuds?

Remember - if you push hard enough, something will come out the other end.

IIRC, they did One Dumb Thing by asking the estate for permission,
rather than simply putting exactly what they already had from the LD
onto DVD. Oh well, I have both, so That's Good!

The Hendrix estate is pretty litigous. It probably would have opened a legal

When money talks, Hendrix walks (down the street to drink a Pepsi)!
Maybe it's a cola war thing. After all, Devo did TV ads for Coke.

They appeared in a Diet Coke ad in the middle 1980's.
They wore white Energy Domes.

It's a quick shot of them pretending to perform.

"The commercials they did for Honda and Coca Cola were done purely for
financial reasons, not to poke fun at the commercial industry or anything.
The commercials were done during that turbulent period when Devo was
splitting with Warners and with their management. They needed money or would
cease being a band. They had complete creative control of both projects,
though, and would not have done them otherwise. Devo had been offered many,
many commercials to do in the past which they turned down because they
didn't have any say in them." - The Devo Faq

In fairness to the Hendrix estate, Pepsi didn't have Randy Hansen
dressed as Hendrix popping out of a coffin. Not that I consider that
a good reason to deny Devo, but I would bet money that was the whole
reason.

Of course Pepsi didn't have Ivan Stang directing either!

Speaking of Stang & "cola wars', Stang's son has directed a few
commercials for Coke. And has made some low-low budget (low by even
Stang's standards) indie films.

MUst be all those Drugs in the '60's and '70's. Screwed up the DNA of
