Post by N***@gmail.comWell, I hate to do this, since your apology was classy, but...
Post by Savage LizardYeah, I wasn't up on the internet habits of inmates. I didn't get that the
tagline was a joke, as I have never ever had a need to look into whether or
not inmates get internet access, and it just hasn't come up in any of my
conversations.
Ditto for me. In fact, I still have no idea whether all prison inmates
are restricted from the Internet (wouldn't surprise me if some have
access). Yet it's perfectly obvious that Boom's sig is tongue-in-cheek.
It wasn't obvious to me, but maybe I'm just a dumbass.
Post by N***@gmail.comPost by Savage LizardPeople who murder, rape and
steal are pieces of shit that deserve nothing.
I won't argue with that, though I'm extremely skeptical that prison is
the country club that you seem to imagine it is.
I don't imagine it to be a country club. I do know that they have a roof
over their heads, three squares a day, TV, weight yards. They are doing
much better than a lot of people. I'd like to see them toiling in the hot
sun, breaking big rocks into little rocks.
Post by N***@gmail.comPost by Savage LizardI guess you're one of these apologists
that think that since someone mistreated these poor criminals when they were
little kids, then somehow their actions aren't their fault. Or that ALL
police and prosecutors are exactly as portrayed in movies and TV, so nobody
in jail is actually guilty.
Nope. I'm one of those realists who knows that a lot of people in jail
are pot dealers, and there are some who aren't guilty of any so-called
crime. And that police and prosecutors are "doing their jobs well" when
they make arrests and convictions. Lock up dangerous people to protect
society--I won't argue with that. But again, I think your hard-on for
punishment is sick and is completely unrelated to "justice."
That's all well and good, but without having any concrete numbers, I'm
guessing the vast majority of people in jail are there because they deserve
to be. They made poor choices, and did things they knew were against the
law. Even pot dealers are criminals. Even though I agree that their
actions should not be illegal, the fact of the matter is that they are, and
those people are knowingly breaking the law, so I refuse to treat them as
victims. Yes, there are people in jail who do not deserve to be, but I
seriously doubt that it is as large a number as some would have you believe.
And please explain why my hard-on for punishment is sick? I think it's
pretty simple. There are laws we live by. I don't agree with all of them
either, but they are laws. If people knowingly disobey the law, then there
should be consequences. And if you are going to have consequences, they
should be tough. If people are going to be sent to prison, it should be an
awful place that people would never want to return to.
Post by N***@gmail.comPost by Savage LizardI come here to read about Devo, maybe catch the latest tour dates etc.
You
just came off as just the latest person trying to turn a thread into a
political one even though it had nothing to do with anything.
Wrong, wrong, wrong. I come here to read about Devo and get the latest
tour dates. I don't post much because there's not a lot to say about
Devo these days (though you will find posts from me in this group
dating back to the 1990s). But when I come here and see people posting
(what I consider) fucked-up, devolved political opinions, then I
respond. (And whether or not this is a Democrat-Republican issue, your
comments that I responded to were *definitely* political.)
My original post merely stated that prisoners are society's shitheads, which
they pretty much are. I don't know if that's political so much as my
opinion about people who do those things that get them sent to jail. You
are the one who termed that opinion "trumped-up, lunatic, right-wing
outrage." I am certainly not right wing, I just think criminals are
shitheads.
