New songs for this tour

Devo usually works up a couple tunes each new tour that they haven't
done for a while. "Pink Pussycat" is ripe for bringing back, so I'd
bet dollars to donuts they're going to do it this tour. I'm surprised
they haven't worked up "Working In A Coal Mine" again, but I doubt
they'll work it back up. They'll probably work up "Jerkin' Back 'n'
Forth" instead, but I'd really like to see them do "Shrivel Up."

But why do they drop tunes? I don't think it's too much to ask for a
show longer than an hour. At least 75 minutes.

I don't want to turn this into a giant thing, but fuck you.

You don't know shit about me, you don't know what things have happened in my
life, you don't know the reason I hold this opinion. And let me assure you
that it has nothing to do with being right wing. It has everything to do
with having a genuinely bad opinion of criminals based upon personal
experience.

I grow weary of cock knobs like you that want to turn everything into a
right wing/Bush bashing exercise. And before you start on that angle with
me, I couldn't give a shit about Bush. I just happen to believe that most
people in prison are there because they are pieces of shit who can't
function properly in society. The more harsh and fucked up their existence,
the better. I guess holding the opinion that society's miscreants shouldn't
have better living conditions than a lot of people, is wrong, and makes me a
lunatic?

I suppose the words "right wing" can be broadly defined, but your deep
faith in prosecutors and law enforcement, and your hard-on for
"punishment" are enough to convince me that you belong. By the way, I
suspect most people have had experience with "criminals" and have been
the victim of crime at some level.

I'm not trying to be a matryr, I was just trying to explain my reasons for
having a poor opinion of criminals. You seem to think that if one doesn't
like criminals, they are automatically right wing. Right wing and left wing
are bullshit, anyone that lives in either one is probably an idiot.

Fuck yeah I have a "hard-on for punishment." People who murder, rape and
steal are pieces of shit that deserve nothing. Prison SHOULD be a shitty
place that people dread going to. I guess you're one of these apologists
that think that since someone mistreated these poor criminals when they were
little kids, then somehow their actions aren't their fault. Or that ALL
police and prosecutors are exactly as portrayed in movies and TV, so nobody
in jail is actually guilty.

access). Yet it's perfectly obvious that Boom's sig is tongue-in-cheek.

Nope. I'm one of those realists who knows that a lot of people in jail
are pot dealers, and there are some who aren't guilty of any so-called
crime. And that police and prosecutors are "doing their jobs well" when
they make arrests and convictions. Lock up dangerous people to protect

That's all well and good, but without having any concrete numbers, I'm
guessing the vast majority of people in jail are there because they deserve
to be. They made poor choices, and did things they knew were against the
law. Even pot dealers are criminals. Even though I agree that their
actions should not be illegal, the fact of the matter is that they are, and
those people are knowingly breaking the law, so I refuse to treat them as
victims. Yes, there are people in jail who do not deserve to be, but I
seriously doubt that it is as large a number as some would have you believe.

And please explain why my hard-on for punishment is sick? I think it's
pretty simple. There are laws we live by. I don't agree with all of them
either, but they are laws. If people knowingly disobey the law, then there
should be consequences. And if you are going to have consequences, they
should be tough. If people are going to be sent to prison, it should be an
awful place that people would never want to return to.

they pretty much are. I don't know if that's political so much as my

Well, I don't want to argue forever. Obviously it's fair to say someone
is being "thin-skinned" when they latch on to an opinon expressed on a
social issue and turn it into a long argument, as I've done here. I'll
just sum up my stance by saying: I have no sympathy for people who
commit violent crimes. As I said, lock up violent offenders to protect
the rest of us. But the second that prisoners are forced into labor
(which somebody profits from), then you create a situation where there
are people who will gain from "creating" prisoners. And that will never
serve justice. Much better to let prisoners have access to a library
(even if there are Internet terminals, which presumably are firewalled)
than to force anybody into labor for somebody's profit.

(Plus, and this is no hyperbole, I'd say most people in the prison
system are petty criminals compared with much of our government and
military.

In an effort to add to this thread, when Jerry was most recently asked,
he said that there wouldn't be any new stuff going on in the setlist
for the August shows, and maybe not the September shows. That means
we'll be getting the same 70-75min setlist from the 2005 tour, which
with "Wiggly World" and "Going Under", ain't a bad thing to see again.

He also said that there would be some tinkering with the set for the
October shows, however. Song titles mentioned? Secret Agent Man (based
on the 1976 arrangement), Be Stiff (based on the 1980 arrangement),
Peek-A-Boo and Out Of Sync. I'd say be excited.
