How does one manage to remain so ridiculously sexy for so long?
Must be some kick-ass genes. I've had the worst crush on this guy
since 1975, when I was 13. I met him just once, in Topanga Canyon
in 1981, and he was the only one in the band who seemed like a
genuinely nice person. But by then he already had a daughter, so
making a move on him would have been pretty creepy.

I've seen recent pictures of Bob 1 and I'd still do him in a New
York minute. What makes him a sexy hunk is inside not outside.

I've always had a "man crush" (admittedly, straight man talking here,
could be off) on Gerald V. Casale. Whining about DEVO imploding, I
identify with that a lot. Plus "Beautiful World" is the best song by
DEVO in the "sounding like Wall of Voodoo" category.

But I think they're all beautiful on the inside (even Mark).

I hope all the MM fans take a deep breath before they read your post
and get all bent out of shape.

My take on MM is not so much that he is "un-beautiful" on the inside
but is busy processing a million other things so you have to be
substantial enough to get in. I find this true of many people with
vision.

Hmmm, GVC, huh? I even like the drummers more.

It's a beautiful day to talk about our DEVO crushes!

Thanks for that, and thanks to others who responded.

To the one who mentioned a crush on Jerry, yeah I understand.
Although he seemed the psychological opposite of Bob 1: uptight,
and he seemed to be pissed off at someone, but nobody could
figure out who. Although if it wasn't for this angst I doubt Devo
would have existed in the first place.

I came across this interview on Youtube, it's from the same time/
place I met the band in '81. One of the few I've seen where
Bob 1 got any direct questions.

Yeah. Yeah. And yes. :-) Sex on a fucking stick.

I'm going to do a podcast devoted to Bob 1 next week, in
honor of his birthday. :)

Though count me in as one of those who crush on GVC. It's
those eyes--they're very interesting windows into his soul.
:)

Where does Dr. Byrthfood get these clips? Just incredible.

Relatively early period (note the jumpsuits):

Sounds like about six people were in the audience, but the band
played as if there were 60,000.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.
Maybe Devo will go on a three hour tour.

Hmmm, how can I explain this. Okay:
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip, That
started from this tropic port, aboard this tiny ship. The mate was a mighty
sailin' man, the Skipper brave and sure. Five passengers set sail that day
for a three hour tour. A three hour tour.
The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed. If not for the
courage of the fearless crew, the Minnow would be lost. The Minnow would be
lost. The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle, with
Gilligan, the Skipper too, the Millionaire and his wife, the movie star, the
Professor
and Mary Ann, here on Gilligan's Isle.

Next time I'll tell you the story of a lovely lady who was bringing up three
very lovely girls. All of them had hair of gold, like their mother, The
youngest one in curls.

I love this thread.

I thought I was the only one.

In '75, I was 28. You do the math; I'm way too old and queer now for
this sort of thang.

I'm gonna go look for Bob 1 on Devo album covers now and pix from
shows gone by.

Thanx for the reminder.

May all of DEVO live long and prosper!

I knew about it! haha

I've always felt some form of affinity to Bob1, As you well know I have
also met him a couple of times, and always has been a nice guy. It
pleased me no end that he stopped to spend a little time with my
Daughter Elouise before soundcheck in Paris. Patiently waiting in line
behind Mark before coming forward to shake her hand and talk a little.

For those that don't know, Bob has 1 son and 3 daughters, one of them
only 1 year old. As well as a Grandaughter. So very much a family man.

Mark now having two daughters I think has changed him, for the better.
