Do you have an accurate transcript of the first Devo album lyrics? The
ones in the booklet are incomplete for Jocko Homo and Praying Hands.
The ones I've found on web pages seem to be inaccurate also.

Thanks

Well, since you asked so nicely, here's the words you're missing:

Praying Hands:

Wash your hands three times a day
Always do what your mom and dad say
Brush your teeth or they'll fall away
Wash your hands three times a day

Roll over, play dead
Get spiritual minded

Jocko Homo:

All together now;
God made man, but he used the monkey to do it
Apes in the plan, we're all here to prove it
I can walk like an ape, talk like an ape, do what monkeys do
God made man but the monkeys applied the glue

I always thought it was "but A monkey SUPPLIED the glue". Wait, let me
listen to it right now...hmm, still can't quite tell on the Q?A! studio
version. Ok, on Live 1980 it sounds like "supplied" to me. Let's see,
still sounds like "supplied" on my disc on Live in NYC 7-23-2004,
although it's not that clear. Oh wait, we have the live acoustic
version on Now It Can Be Told. Yeah, it's DEFINITELY "supplied" there,
not "applied". Oh well, it's all avery minor point, the meaning's
pretty much the same.

I also had always thought it was "Brush your teeth in the following way"
in Praying Hands, but I guess "or they'll fall away" makes more sense.
Listening, listening...yeah, from the Q?A! stdio version, I guess you're
right, it's "fall away". Hmm...been listening to these songs for 25+
years and I didn't have the lyrics quite right in my head? I suck!

OK, I went to the page on Club Devo that has the tab and lyrics for
"Jocko Homo," and according to them, that stanza goes:

All together now;
God made man, but he used a monkey to do it
Ape is the plan, we're all here to prove it
I can walk like an ape, talk like an ape, do what monkeys do
God made man but monkeys applied the glue

I don't believe these lyrics are accurate, though. I know he says
"But THE monkeys..." and I thought he also said "Apes in the plan."
But saying "monkeys applied" or "monkey supplied" sounds identical
when you sing it really fast, so I don't think it matters too much.
But I'm watching "Deal or No Deal" and about to go finish cleaning my
fish tanks, so listening will have to wait.

And I always thought it was minkeys supplied the clue (chortle)

Brush your teeth or they'll fall away
On close listening, it sounds to me like he says "Brush your teeth or
they'll all go away".

I've always heard "in the following way". And I seem to be the only
one who can hear "i've taken my mind apart and lost some of the
pieces" in Strange Pursuit. In Praying Hands, you're being commanded
to mindlessly do things.

If that's not the correct line, it should be!

*heard it as "brush your teeth, put the bottle away"*

The line "Apes in the plan" is written as "Ape is the plan" on the tab
posted on Club Devo. I always thought it was apes in the plan too,
though.
