I'm going to see Kraftwerk in NYC. I mentioned here before that I wished
that Devo had the money to put on the type of visual presentation that they
used to do. Here's a link of what a Kraftwerk show looks like:

Kraftwerk are boring old farts who need all the visual help they can
get. Devo may be old farts, but they're certainly not boring.

It's a very different experience from a band that's more "live" in the
conventional sense, but I've seen Kraftwerk shows in both 1998 and 2004
in San Francisco, and both times it was *totally* riveting, and I left
very satisfied with the experience. I would definitely not miss them if
you're at all familiar with their work and they come to your area...

To each his own, but I know Devo themselves would disagree with you there.
Kraftwerk was a great influence on Devo right from the start. Part of what
Devo is, is very Kraftwerk-like, so in a way, you do like Kraftwerk.

Devo was a visual band right from the start. It's too bad they can only do
the stripped-down version of themselves. It's still a superior show compared
to what a standard rock act can offer.

No, actually I don't. I never cared for their music at all, with the
exception of one song on Computer World called "Pocket Calculator."
And watching 3 guys stand still at keyboards is not my idea of
entertainment. Sorry.

Agreed. But now that the world seems to be catching up to Devo, maybe
they'll get a little more happening in the visuals department. But
quite honestly, I'd rather they re-learn 5 or 6 more tunes and do a
full 90 minute show instead of adding visuals.

It's that whole man/machine paradox. Devo called it "suburban robots that
monitor reality", and Kraftwerk said "we are the robots".

Yeah, let's hope so.

Yeah, I'd like to see some new tunes too.

Ah, you need them on treadmills at the very least... Very telling!

It's 4 guys standing still at keyboards. And that's obviously
way better than 3 guys standing still at keyboards. Duh!

I saw Kraftwerk in April 2004 and it was certainly
one of best concerts I've ever seen. The sound,
the visuals, the music... all blew me away.

You can compare a Kraftwerk concert with seeing a movie
in a huge theatre with amazing surround sound. The
actual "live" element isn't too much (just singing and
some sounds - most of the music is sequenced), but it's
absolutely nothing you could recreate anywhere but in
that setting.

Great art moves my molecules... and this certainly did.
