Anyone know when/why he changed his name?

Pizzute has a great ring to it IMO.

He didn't change it. His father changed his name from his birth parent's
name to his foster parents name in 1946, and then back to his birth parent's
name in 1952, so Jerry's name changed also.
It's in the Devo book:

Thanks Gary. Haven't read the book yet.

Thanks Gary. Haven't read the book yet.
The only reason I read it is because someone bought it for
me. Interesting fairy tale, but I take it with a huge grain
of salt, considering Devo doesn't approve of it.

Not me. I believe every word of it. I think the guys in Devo are
probably decent, hard working guys who are pleasant to be around. But
I believe that in order to get to where they got, one of them had to
be pretty ruthless about it. And one of them apparently was, and if
he wasn't, I don't see much evidence to the contrary being presented.

Many thanks, Gary. This bit of Casale family history was confirmed by
Jerry's parents (who are very nice people), but is also fully-
documented in court records. As you might imagine, it took a
considerable amount of sleuthing, but I've got copies of the relevant
birth certificates and legal name changes if someone feels the need
for further evidence. Of course, David Giffels and I made every
effort to be meticulous about our research, and, while certain
bandmembers failed to appreciate our substantial efforts, I've seen
little from Mark or Jerry disputing specific facts as presented in our
account, "fairy tale" or whatever you'd like to call it...

All the best,

All the best,
My skepticism stems from the fact that you guys didn't get a
Beatles song title right in the hardcover edition. If you
failed to notice a mistake like that, I can't help but
wonder what other mistakes were overlooked.

After seeing that picture, I now know where the idea for the Devo-Doo came
from...

LOL! Jerry with hair! The Devo-Doo came from JFK, but I think you
could make a case of it being from Jerry's HS picture.

I always assumed the Devo-Do was inspired by Reagan, considering the
timing (and the color is Reagan's, not JFK's). Did anyone from say
they're inspired by Kennedy?

They modeled it after an image of JFK from a postage stamp.
JFK was a progressive icon who stood for establishing new traditions.
Hence the album title "New Traditionalists".
Give the past the slip, and establish new traditions.

Hmm. I always thought the whole concept was a reaction to the election
of Reagan and his aim to reestablish "traditional" values.

The doo (or something very close to the doo) can be seen
on a mask of JFK, from their first "video" (Secret Agent
Man) in 1975. This was five years before Reagan was
elected president.

heh heh. Well, if DEVO was living under a Reagan presidency in 1980,
when Carter was still prez (per the scroll on the DEVO Live 1980 DVD),
maybe they were warning us as far back as 1975.

I thought it was said here that the bit on that DVD about
Bonzo being president in '80 was a genuine error.

yeah, I know. I think there was controversy in this group over whether
GC was being intentionally deceptive or not (to me it's clearly a true
error), and I was just making an obscure wink to that.

Reagan was governor of California prior to being elected
president. Only Gerry knows how much of his angst was
directed at Reagan as opposed to other targets.

Yeah, I wrote Jerry about that and that's what he said. He said that
they sent in the correction to Target Video but they didn't make it.

Also true. That's the flipside.
JFK was go forward, move ahead. The youngest President.
Reagan was a piece of ancient history. The oldest President.

It was, but the Devo-Do was still based on Kennedy.
