After seeing that this is STILL available from Rhino Handmade, I'd like
to pose a question.
Is this set worth the $$?
It looks cool and I'd love to add it to my collection but from looking
at the track list I know most of the songs, they're just the demo or
alternate version. Are they that substantially different? Would
anyone who owns this care to chime in?

Also, I'd really like to own both volumes of Hardcore Devo but they are
very out of print and seemingly non-existant unless you want to pay $60
for a used copy. These really need to be re-released.

Yes

Yes. The demos are cool. The unreleased stuff is cool. The linear notes are
cool.

It's worth it just for the reproductions of Mark's artwork from the
original demos. Seriously.

Some of the songs are significantly different. It's cool to see how
they changed (devolved?) over time. "Luv N' Such" is a good example. It
eventually became "Mr. B's Ballroom". A lot of the songs have shown up
on bootlegs, but it's cool to see them on an official release. Some of
them are close to the final album versions - but still worth getting
(there's nothing you'll regret having).

Absolutely. I have bootlegged copies, but I'd love to get legit ones.
The same goes for "Live: The Mongoloid Years". These albums are too
good to be out of print.

I bought it, and it's well worth the money. It's the last CD I actually
paid for! It comes with fancy graphics and I think a book or something,
but maybe not. I ripped it to a hardrive and stuck the box in a shelf
somewhere six years ago, after I realized the sun coming through the
window had quickly bleached the cover almost white. The demos are just
different enough from the final versions to be interesting. One or more
tracks has different lyrics. I still listen to it regularly.

Both HARDCOREs are all over P2P fo free. I got volumes 1 & 2 from a
local record store in trade for a stack of OLD DIRTY BASTARD and WU TANG
CDs I ripped off from Columbia House. The guy said "we don't trade CDs
any more" and I said "I'll give you these for the dusty DEVO CDs on the
back shelf" and he said "Deal!" I also got a CD of E-Z LISTENING MUZAK
in the same trade.
