Did any SF bay area spuds see the Devo tribute band Mongoloid at
Galaxy12 last night in SF? I was going to go, and then a bunch of
stupid crap came up and I didn't make it. I saw them a few years back
at that place directly across the street from Amoeba Records at Haight
and Stanyan (dunno the name of the place) and again at the Covered Wagon
Saloon (since closed, remodeled and reopened under some other name) in
the SOMA area. As I recall, they were really pretty good. Costumes,
choreography, high spastic energy, all pretty faithful to the OG spuds.

I saw them years ago at the Fab Mab, except it's now called the Velvet
Lounge. They were still very De-Vo, regardless of the time discrepency.

I'm not the right person to make any critical judgement, but the last
two shows (Hotel Utah w/the AWESOME Polysics, Thee Parkside w/Cookie
Mongoloid) were too packed for the audience to be comfortable, so it
was nice that this one was a larger venue/smaller turnout (so people
could actually dance and see the band). The big minus was the guitar
amp dying during the first verse of "Penetration in the Centerfold", so
we never got to finish that one properly. The big plus was the
soundman, Donny (who also works at Bottom of the Hill); it may have
been the best we've ever sounded.

The Boomerang. Lots of Mongoloid shows there (including the one where
my foot nearly got smashed by a spilled keyboard), back in the day.

Now the Cherry Bar.

I apologize if it's in bad form to advertise ... but our next show is
saturday, June 6 at El Rio on Mission St. (just a couple blocks S of C
Chavez). We'll kick off the show with a short set of early ("Hardcore
Devo") material, followed by a Joy Division cover band and a headlining
Mongoloid set that may go a bit later into the Devo catalog than we
normally do ...

Advertise away... please.

Any chance of coming to Toronto?
