Woohoo! I'm leaving in a matter of hours for my drive down to Hollywood
for this weekend's 2 Devo shows at the house of blues on sunset blvd.
It should be a FULLY devolved weekend, yes indeed. I'm psyched psyched
psyched! I even made myself a nice 6-ish hour mix playlist on ye olde
ipod for the drive down from the SF area. And the winner of the "most
obscure and cheesy 80's song in my roadtrip playlist" award goes
to..."Ah! Leah!" by Donnie Iris! <place fake applause sound effect here>

Didn't Dale & Aldo have matching leopard-print spandex leotards?

Interestingly enough, Missing persons are the opener for Devo's gig in
Oakland. I'm sure Dale is not quite the vixen she was 20 years ago, but I'm
still itchin' to get a look.

Yikes, no! Did anyone else see her on "Hit Me Baby One More Time?"

I saw Missing Persons a few years back. She was still in nice shape. A
couple years later Great White set off a fire at the very same club and
killed 100 people.

That reminds me of this joke:
What did the Grateful Dead fan who ran out of marijuana say?
- This music sucks!

My sister has a friend with missing fingers from the barbeque at the
Station.

Yep, I'll be at the Oaklan show as well. Nice and local for me, about
20 miles away. I'm a fan of Missing Persons on record, but the few live
performances I've seen on video weren't too good. A lot like Flock Of
Seagulls that way, great records, but they can't pull it off live, and
they end up sounding like a mediocre FoS cover band. Just like the
current incarnation of FoS, the current Missing Persons line up has Dale
singing, and then a bunch of unknowns, with no other original band
members. I'll give 'em a chance at the Oakland gig, but I'm not
expecting much.

I did see her/them on that cheesy "Hit Me Baby One More Time" show
recently, and I dunno, I'm pretty sure the hair is totally fake now.
She kept that hat on pretty tightly if you noticed!

"could be that the smog's playin' tricks on my eyes
or it's a rollerskater, some kind of headphone disguise
maybe somebody who just ran out of gas
making his way back to the pumps the best way he can..."

On another note, I just got home from Hollywood, and the Saturday and
Sunday night Devo gigs at the HoB were super excellent! Saturday's gig
had a tad more energy than Sunday's gig, but eiher way, it's pretty
amazing that they can still throw that much energy into their
performances at whatever age they are now. Some slight setlist changes
from the other recent shows, such as the Central Park NYC show. Solid
song choices in my opinion, I loved it. I won't spoil it though. Oh,
here's a BIG spoiler though: They played Whip It. Heh.

Anybody but Warren & Terry's gonna be a huge step down... I kinda
wonder what those guys are doing? Warren was doing newage music the
last time I heard, and god knows where Bozzio is at these days... I
feel a fit of googling coming on...

Both longtime members of the reconstituted Dooran Dooran (obviously
replacing the Taylor Bros), among tons of other stuff. It's
interesting to look at the two sites -- Warren compartmentalizes
everything & Terry just mixes it all together -- I think that's just
symptomatic of they way you have to approach their respective
instruments -- there's more premeditiation involved in creating a good
electric guitar sound than there is in what a great drummer does -- For
a drummer, those choices can be more spontaneous, so it's more casual
to plug in to different things, whereas for a guitarist, playing with
Missing Persons has got to be totally different than playing with Zappa
-- they call on different skill sets, different equipment, different
tonalities & timbres... at least in the way Warren seems to approach
things.

I hadn't remembered that Bozzio played on the last U. K. record (my
fave of theirs)... I have a buddy who reminds me a lot of him -- he
does a lot of different stuff, from Organ trio to country to prog rock
to very complex composed jazz. But I digress... Ha!

I think Warren joined Duran Duran for awhile.
