Funky that the notice seems to say that they've not been playing
together all this time. wtf?

And what exactly is a "somewhat cantankerous" rhythm?

Ignore it -- it's rock-critic speak is all.

The "Andy" who wrote that is likely either Andy Flynn or Andy Langer
-- either of whom should know better than to think DEVO has been
dormant all this time.
It appeared to me to claim only that their 2008 Akron show was their
first HOMETOWN REUNION in 30 years. Would that statement be correct?

If Alan wasn't there, it wasn't a reunion IMO.

I hate to say this, becuase Josh is a great drummer, but DEVO's Music
does not sound the same without Alan Myers on the drums.

Yeah. I don't think anyone can blame Alan for leaving (I mean
does any drummer aspire to be a drum machine?), but he had an
astonishing fluidity:

I've not heard anyone, not even the Supposed Greatest Drummer Keith
Moon who could drum as fast and as smootly as Myers.

In December, I went to see Calexico in Concert, and the band who
opened for them came close to matching Alan Myers, but they were using
two, yes two Drummers!

Ya, he was a terrific drummer. Josh was close...I loved the way he
beat the drums really hard like Animal from the Muppets Band (Dr.
Teeth and the Electric Mayhem), but Devo's drummers have all been more
normal drummers, whereas Alan really tried hard to sound robotic, and
it makes a difference.

For the record, at a SXSW party years ago, I heard a unreleased demo
solo album by one of Devo's temp drummers, and it was pretty great! I
wish I could remember who and when...

They've only had 3 that I know of...David Kendrick, Josh Freese, and
the guy that just replaced Josh when he joined NIN. But now that Josh
quit NIN, I wonder if he'll go back to doing Devo gigs. Seems kind of
unfair to the guy who replaced him, but dang, he's good!

You forgot "Jungle Jim" Motherbaugh! He played the drums on the
"Secret Agent Man" Video.

If you ever say that entire "Men Who Make the Music", you see them in
a old blue chevy. That was Mark's car. They could fit the keyboards,
guitars & amps in it, but had no room for drums.

So Jim took some old guitar pickups, a few drum skins, and invented
the Electric Drums! Now thier drums could fit in the car too!

Thats how Jim ended up at Moog.

Forgot about Jim...sorry...yes, he's quite the electronic genius, that
one. Can't play drums worth a crap, though ;)

Maybe it was Josh? IIRC, he just put out an album.

Funny how coincidences work -- I just spotted a Ryko sampler CD at a
local thrift store containing a track by Rouse!
