I've been having a ball looping the narration-free audio bits from our
favorite commercial...it's a lot of fun playing along on my drum pads,
too. Made me think, though....imagine a new DEVO song this catchy &
cool, but with perfectly off-kilter precision drumming from a Mister
A. Meyers. I think I could (almost) die a happy guy if I were to hear
something like that. Sigh.

I'm having more fun with the full blown version of the song I bought for 99
cents from Itunes.
"Watch Us Work It" is available there.

Well, the weird time signatures pretty much stopped after the second studio
album. Keep in mind, he was there for "Oh No, It's Devo" and "Shout", which
weren't very off-kilter rythmicly. The music he did in his wife's band
(after he left Devo) was also straight ahead four on the floor.

"Watch Us Work It" lyrics:

Drums! Rock steady!
Bass: Keep it tight!
Lead. Do it now!
(Hey) I thought I heard somebody say
"That dog ain't goin' home
Until he gets his bone"
(Hey) they said that way he'd be OK
So when he's home alone
He'd bark "ain't nothin' wrong!"
Now, watch us work it
Work it out
Watch us work it
Work it inside out
Baby we can work it out
Let's put it back together
(Hey) my baby said to me
"I feel so DEVO"
I don't know what to do
(Hey) It's OK because she's free
"How low can you go?"
That's really up to you
Watch us work it
Work it out
Watch us work it
Work it inside out

Same here. I think I listened to it 4 times in a row while
making dinner the other night. :)

Aside: I'm gonna try to skip a belt in Tae Kwon Do next
week, and I may opt to try to learn another form to increase
my chances. I've gotten in the habit of picking Devo songs
to help me remember the forms, and this new song's going to
be the one that goes with the 3rd form. (FWIW, Jocko Homo
was picked for the 1st form, and The Satisfied Mind has
helped me learn the 2nd form.)

To download iTunes for FREE go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

It is free to register, you will have to register payment things if you
wish to acutally buy any music from iTunes.

Nothing wrong with that. I think Alan's real genius is in constructing
memorable beats. His parts have a melodic quality. Take "Satisfaction"
or "Freedom of Choice". Not only is the playing rock solid, it's
catchy.

And fluid. I think Mark and Gerry get a disproportionate amount
of credit for the group's success: if they were Devo's brains, Alan
and Bobs 1/2 were the guts of the operation.
