Compared to infinite zero? (which I cannot find).

Does "Through Being Cool" still have a high-frequency drop off?

Thx from old Devo fan (are we all?)

All versions do. The master was recorded on defective tape.

I've heard this story for years, but during hundreds of listens, I've
been so enthralled by the music I forget to listen for geektechery
anomalies.

Gots to dig out the CD and hunt for missin freequencies. Total
knowledge of such will complete me.

"Through Being Cool" was obviously a warning, far ahead of its time.
Grobal Warning is zoomin over us as we speak. The dinosaurs are barking
your name - IN RECOGNITION.

I've compared all versions of Devo CD's. The Collectables versions
sound identical to the Infinite Zero remixes. And the high freq
dropoff is a result of a problem with the master tape, so it's in all
of them.

I messed with that song a little in a sound editing program and got
some decent results. A lot of the highs are still there, just at low
volume. I brought them out and it didn't sound right. I can't explain
it very well, but that album sounds better with the highs gone. It
makes a difference in the mood of the whole thing. It could be just
that I have heard it without the highs since I was about 14 years old
and my mind has grown to prefer it, but I think it sounds cheesy with
the highs brought out.

Sometimes you don't really understand what you're asking for. Enjoy
what you've got.

That's the case with me. A clean mix with highs intact would
sound...wrong.

Off topic: Iggy & the Stooges' "Raw Power", mixed in a tin can 'on
purpose', was remixed/mastered by the Ig a couple of years ago....he
literally turned everything up to 11. The waveform is a solid
rectangle, with no peaks/valleys. Awful, just awful.
