Hello all you spuds! I haven't posted on here in ages, just been kinda
lurking for a little bit... but it is my goal to try to return this
newsgroup to its once former glory! there has been a bit of activity
lately with the DVDs and the upcoming shows, but sill, we can never
have enough DEVO. So here is the first part of my plan: Everybody vote
for their favorite DEVO album. (yes I know it has been done to the
death, but lets get one more) And once its all been tallied up, lets
say give it two weeks, we should make a compilation cover cd of said
favorite album. I know fan projects have been done in the past, but
not for a long time. If everyone thinks its a horribly lame idea, I
completely respect that, and I'll even give you that option in the
voting! So here it goes! Just tally your score next to the album or
disagree

I tried emailing you, but earthlink's spamblocker autoresponded and said
"nuh uh, not until you click this link to confirm you aren't a lame-o
spammer." I clicked it, but it errored out saying the message wasn't
there anymore. Hmm. Well, ick. If you could, email me here, removing
the NOSPAMs:

I actually have a cover of Blockhead I did a LOOOONG time ago on casette
tape somewhere, if I could only find it. It recorded
it...umm...probably 12 years ago in my community college's electronic
music class. T'was top of the line digital junk for the time:
Apple Macintosh IIci
Audiomedia II Nubus card for audio I/O
Korg M1
Ummm, that's about it. Everything other than the guitar and vocal were
from the M1. The vocal is so ridiculous, because for the backup
"BLOCKHEAD" shouts, we wanted to yell really loudly, but the stupid
UBERcrappy preamp would sorta jump to no level when we tried to turn it
down enough to not overload and distort when we yelled. The line level
input into the audiomedia had NO input level control at all! So, we put
the mic in one corner of the room, and we stood in the diagonally
opposite corner of the room. This was a big room, a classroom we were
using during off hours in the music building. (Diablo Valley College in
Concord/Pleasant Hill CA if anyone cares) So, here we are, my friend
Don and I, shouting "BLOCKHEAD!" across 20 or 25 feet to the mic. It
came out sounding intelligible, but weird.

Plus, my attempt to emulate Bob1's guitar solo is super awful.

I'm going to try to find the tape of this, I hope it still exists.

Baby Doll played at the NYC show would be quite a treat. Even if I'm
not there to hear it.

Ob On Topic: "Shout" has my vote.
Right now the only song I'd probably be able to cover is "You've Got Me
Bugged." Though I'd have to substitue an Arp 2500 for a Paia modular.

Let's see - because Occupant voted for NuTrads, it's time to break the
tie between DutyNow & FoC?

Okay, that's logical.

Assuming once again that we're voting for our fave and not the
objective best of the two, I say FoC.

Actually in this case, I would say FoC either way. Duty was basically
Q/A warmed over. FoC was revolutionary in comparison.

If I can possibly find the time, I want GATES OF STEEL. I have a stack
of new virtual synths and sample libraries I have yet to publicly abuse.

Of course, we could actually have two or more people doing versions of
the same song and not be all tight-assed about it, since it's not a
commercial release...

Ooooooh. That is a nice title. We've been in all seven stages of hell.
Surprisingly, not all were bad. We've built Summer homes in a couple
and plan to fight the good fight against the bad fight. Whatever that
means. Still stabilizing the Lab and it's funding, but it's a positive
move forward after a huge tumble back. Musically we are stronger and
wiser and anxious to drop our new tunez on U Spud types. We know it's
been a long time, but hang with us a bit more and goodness will spew
forth in no time.

Thanks for the support to all faithful of the AFD.
